The Quantitative Economics Division is a research group within the Department of Economics that has a clear focus on high-quality research and is active in a variety of topics in economics, econometrics and quantitative economics. The position comprises the following tasks and responsibilities:
- Independent research with the aim of submitting a dissertation in economics, econometrics or quantitative economics and acquiring a doctoral degree
- Contribution to departmental research and teaching projects
- Independent teaching in German and in English and supervision of students
- Adequate participation in the administrative tasks and responsibilities of the department
- Participation in university committees, in university self-governance and in public relations activities of the department
- Diploma or master’s degree in economics or a related field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, econometrics or similar, including also related engineering programs, with a strong formal background) at a higher education institution
- Good academic record
- Good knowledge in at least one of the fields data analysis, quantitative economics, econometrics and/or statistics
- Some (preferably strong) experience in scientific programming (e.g., Python, R or MATLAB)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
- First experiences in academic teaching and research
- First experiences in quantitative economics or similar fields
- Dedication to research in economics, econometrics or quantitative economics; preferably documented by first research results in, e.g., the master thesis or first publications
- Social and communication competences, interest in and ability to work in teams
- Strong motivation and output orientation
- Ability to work independently in (scientific) projects with a focus on high quality and precision
- Very good knowledge of German (level C1-C2)
Our offer:
This position serves the purposes of the vocational and scientific education of graduates of diploma or master’s degree programmes and sets the goal of completing a corresponding doctoral degree in economics, econometrics or quantitative economics. Applications by individuals who have already completed a subject-specific doctoral degree or a subject-relevant PhD programme therefore cannot be considered.
The employment contract is concluded for the position as university assistant (predoctoral) and stipulates a starting salary of at least € 3,578.80 gross per month for a full-time position (100 %) (14 times a year; previous experience deemed relevant to the job can be recognised in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement).
