The University of Klagenfurt invites applications for the following position attached to the Professorship of General Sociology (Allgemeine Soziologie) in the Department of Society, Knowledge and Politics at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The preferred starting date is September 1, 2026:

Level of employment: 100 % (40 hours/week)
Minimum salary: € 70,200.20 per annum (gross), Classification according to collective agreement: B1 lit.b

- Conducting independent, high-quality research in sociology and developing an internationally visible research profile
- Independent and innovative teaching, as well as student supervision
- Participating in the research and teaching projects of the General Sociology research group
- Participating in academic self-governance, including serving as Director of Studies for the BA programme Social Sciences
- English-language teaching within the BA programme Social Sciences: 4 semester contact hours per week (2 courses per semester), including examinations and student supervision; a reduction to 3 semester contact hours per week is envisaged when serving as Director of Studies
- Contributing to administrative tasks in the department and to quality assurance measures
- Participating in the organisation of seminars, conferences and other events of the research group
- Doctoral degree in sociology or a related field. This requirement must be fulfilled at least two weeks before commencing employment – at the latest, August 18, 2026.
- Excellent empirical research profile in any area of sociology
- Ability to teach quantitative methods
- Excellent record of, or clear potential for, publishing in leading international social science journals, commensurate with career stage, as evidenced by publications or manuscripts at the revise-and-resubmit stage
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Specializations in political sociology, analytical sociology, intergroup relations, historical sociology, computational social science, political conflict and violence, social movements, or related fields are particularly welcome
- Experience or clear potential in acquiring and/or managing third-party-funded projects, and willingness to contribute to future grant applications and projects of the research group
- Excellent teaching record or clear potential for excellence in university teaching
- Willingness to contribute to the research activities and intellectual profile of the research group
- Ability to work constructively in a research team
